Featured "In Danger" Artist: Daren Bader

Fantasy fans of many varieties will recognize Daren Bader’s work, from Rockstar Games to Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. A prolific painter, Daren has painted Conan and Tarzan, Warhammer and World of Warcraft. He has been an artist his entire life and prefers acrylics for their speed and durability, oils for their richness and mobility and digital for its freedom and flexibility. He has created art professionally for over 20 years, including a comic book series, video game design including Red Dead Redemption and current work with augmented reality technology through Magic Leap Studio.

Fantastic creatures are a staple of many of Daren’s works, often drawn from real world natural inspiration. To him, nature brings a sense of calm and familiarity and serves as the perfect composer. He believes conserving nature is an important part of keeping the unique voices of different artists alive.

Here are Daren’s awesome contributions to In Danger:

“Afternoon Shade (Arabian Oryx)“

“I have always been a fan of horned hoofed animals. The array of horn and antler types on deer and antelope have always been inspirational in my wildlife art, as well as in my creature designs. Not to mention, just a joy to draw. With this piece, I wanted to explore the strong, graphic shapes of the horns and markings in combination with the harsh landscape. I like the expressive color that can be found in harsh conditions, too.” - Daren Bader

“High Trails (Desert Bighorn)”

“With this piece, I wanted to create a composition without a horizon to try to set a slight mood of vertigo. I have personally seen bighorn gracefully walking invisible trails on high cliff sides in the wild, and it has always been fascinating to watch them fearlessly and casually move about. With this painting, I wanted to try to get the viewer to recognize how strange it would be to walk those pathways.” - Daren Bader
