A.J. Trahan is a concept artist and illustrator whose art is featured in Epic Mickey, Blacksite: Area51, Metal Gear Online and Halo 4. He has worked with Midway Games, Junction Point, Steambot Studios and Kojima Studios. Before becoming a professional artist, A.J. says he got a lot of inspiration from drawing the football players off of training cards, Marvel comics tutorials, dinosaurs and cartoons. A.J. tries to find time to do speed painting sessions outside, finding things like the time constraints of capturing light just right to be good training for quick studio deadlines. The natural world is his greatest inspiration and favorite subject and he believes that art is meditation, expression of an idea, a way of studying the world, decoration, his livelihood and his default setting.
A.J. is one the four Austin In Danger artists. Here’s A.J.’s awesome Sumatran Rhino from the book:
“My two-year old son is currently obsessed with his little toy rhino. I felt inspired to paint something that he would enjoy as much as me. I just hope that these fascinating creatures are still around sharing our planet when he is all grown up.” - A.J. Trahan
