Kekai Kotaki is an award-winning freelance artist who people might know from his many years working on Guild Wars 2 at ArenaNet. He often does cover work for books, such as The Unremembered and The Quantum Thief. He says most of his hobbies are art-related in some way or another and that he was first inspired by the fantasy books he read as a child. Many describe his work as “epic.” Other projects he is known for include his personal collection of knight sketches, in which he plays with different poses, colors and personalities for each faceless warrior.

Kekai grew up on the big island of Hawaii and jokes that the beauty of the wildlife and nature distracted him so much that he had to move to Seattle to focus on school. Nature is something he always looks to for inspiration because it never ceases to surprise him.

Take a look at Kekai’s awesome piece for In Danger:

“Alala (Hawaiin Crow)”

“Alala (Hawaiin Crow)”

“Being born and raised in Hawaii, I wanted to draw an endangered species that was from there. The alalā, or Hawaiian Crow, was chosen because of how critical its existence is.” - Kekai Kotaki
