For character designer and illustrator Nick Acuna, art has often been a source of comfort and shelter. Nick’s interest in art was fostered by his father and cousin while growing up in Columbia; it became solace and escape when acclimating to a new culture when he moved to the US, as language was difficult and often isolating for him. Nick works primarily in digital art but his favorite medium is ink because it allows him to explore ideas more freely.
Nature is one of Nick’s greatest inspirations, having grown up in a tropical area. He often draws creative ideas for new creatures from the diverse species that live in the environment of his youth and the moment he goes out and explores and learns more about nature, he feels closer to home. He is currently a freelance artist.
Here’s Nick’s lovely contribution to In Danger:
“This became a very personal piece the deeper I got into researching these incredible creatures and the threat they face with deforestation. Growing up in Colombia, the mountains and rainforests were like a second home to me, they gave purpose and inspiration not just for my art but for life itself.” - Nick Acuna
